Police have stepped up patrols in Burnham-On-Sea this week after vandals caused hundreds of pounds of damage to cars and homes.
One of the victims of this week’s vandalism spree is the owner of this vehicle, who awoke on Tuesday morning (January 18th) to find her rear car window had been smashed with a brick.
Inspector Roger Tolley of Burnham Police confirmed they are investigating a spate of vandalism incidents in Rosewood Avenue, Ashcott Drive, Worston Lane, St Mark’s Road and Cassis Close.
He told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Unfortunately, we have been called to several reports of rowdiness and vandalism in parts of Burnham this week where groups of young people have attacked property.”
Over the past week, a stone has been thrown through a window in Worston Lane and two other windows were broken in Cassis Close.
In Ashcott Drive, a wall was smashed and a car wing mirror broken.
A large coping stone on a wall was removed in Rosewood Avenue before being used to damage a parked car.
And in St Mark’s Road, a patio door and fence were damaged by vandals.
Inspector Tolley said police have stepped up patrols and he asked residents who see anyone acting suspiciously to contact them via 999 if urgent or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
The owner of the red vehicle pictured above – who has asked to remain anonymous – told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Within the last 4-5 months our close has seen six walls kicked down, a window smashed on a house and, as of today, my sister’s car window also smashed.”
“This is causing endless bills while the offenders run free. In the past, my house has been egged, fences have been destroyed, and cars targeted. The offenders need to be caught and prosecuted. It is not fair and reasonable to ignore such crimes as they isolate people to their own homes.”
Last week, Burnham-On-Sea.com reported here that police had urged residents to be extra vigilant following a spate of house break-ins.
