Police have stepped up patrols in the centre of Highbridge this week after vandals ripped up plants from flower beds and damaged several hanging baskets.
Members of the Highbridge In Bloom committee have met this week to discuss the problems in Market Street, Church Street and the town green after several nights of damage.
The group’s secretary, Pam Lyes, pictured, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It’s very annoying this has been happening when so much hard work has been put in by everyone to make the displays as attractive as possible.”
“It is disheartening that a small minority of people are spoiling the displays for others. We hope the police will stop the problem.”
Inspector Roger Tolley of Burnham Police told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are aware of these problems in Highbridge and have stepped up patrols in the town centre in response to the community.”
Judges from the Britain In Bloom competition visited Highbridge last month when they praised the flowers and colourful hanging baskets in the town.
Many of those along Church Street and Market Street which were planted by members of the Highbridge Dreamscheme.
