A family of five has been rescued from waist-deep mud next to Brean Down.
Coastguards from Burnham and Weston plus a hovercraft and crew from BARB Search Rescue were called to Uphill beach at 3.50pm on Saturday afternoon (May 7th).
“The family of four children and one adult was spotted in waist-deep mud walking in the direction of the River Axe estuary and Brean Down,” said Weston Coastguard Officer Chris Perks.
“Due to the dangerous nature of the estuary, we sent two Coastguard officers to bring them back and also called out the BARB hovercraft as a precaution. All of the family were very muddy, but otherwise unhurt.”
He added that the family had been given safety advice about staying away from the soft mud in the estuary and never to attempt crossing to get to Brean.
