Youngsters at a Burnham-On-Sea school took part in a special day of fundraising to raise cash for an international children’s charity on Friday (February 8th).
Pupils and staff at St Andrew’s School raised £277.40 by giving donations to wear non-school uniform. They also took part in various classroom activities to learn about the work of UNICEF (the United Nations Children’s Fund).
The school was among thousands across the country taking part in UNICEF’s ‘Day for Change’ to raise awareness of its work in helping millions of vulnerable children across the globe.
UNICEF is holding a year of activities to promote the fact that two million children die each year because of malnutrition across the world.
“UNICEF receives no money from the UN budget and instead relies on voluntary donations. This is why fundraising events like Day for Change are so important to help it continue to help children around the world to survive and thrive,” Gavin Morris, Headteacher, told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“We have supported this cause for over 10 years now, and it is an important part of our fundraising programme. The children gain enormously from learning about people less fortunate than themselves, whilst at the same time being able to do something to help.”
