Fall in unemployment across Burnham-On-Sea area welcomed by MP

-

Unemployment has continued to fall in the Burnham-On-Sea area and across Somerset, according to new figures out this week.

Burnham-on-Sea’s MP James Heappey welcomed the news, saying: “With the total number of unemployment claimants in the Wells constituency at just 1.2 per cent, that is half of the national average. This is firm proof that the Somerset economy remains strong.”

Total claimants in the Wells constituency have fallen 51 per cent between December 2010 and 2015 and eight per cent 2014-15.

Youth unemployment has also continued to decrease with only 135 claimants aged 18-24 in December 2015, ten lower than the previous year.
