Police in Burnham-On-Sea have welcomed a court’s decision to fine two traders in the town caught selling alcohol to under-age drinkers.
Ismet Dogan from Zara’s Mini Market in Abingdon Street pleaded guilty to selling alcohol to a person under the age of 18 at a hearing before Sedgempoor Magistrates and was fined £200 plus a Victim’s Surcharge of £15 with additional costs of £245.
John and Patricia Quinnell were recently also fined for two offences of selling alcohol to minors at The Lighthouse Inn. Magistrates fined them a total of £860.
Sgt Ian Kennett told Burnham-On-Sea.com this week: “Police, working with Somerset Trading Standards, treat licensing issues very seriously. The fines let it be known that selling alcohol to people under 18 will not be tolerated.”
He added that several Burnham pubs and clubs have succesfully passed the latest round of under age drinking tests carried out over the past few weeks.
