The UK Independence Party has this week chosen its prospective parliamentary candidate for the Wells constituency, which includes Burnham-On-Sea, to fight next year’s General Election.
Jake Baynes will represent UKIP, as he did in 2010, and will be fighting the seat against incumbent Liberal Democrat MP Tessa Munt, the Conservative’s James Heappey and Labour’s Chris Inchley.
Jake hit the national headlines during the last General Election when he reportedly refused to obey the instructions of the UKIP party’s leader to stand down in the Wells constituency to help Conservative Euro-sceptic David Heathcoat-Amory pick up more votes over Tessa Munt, who went on to win.
Mr Baynes says: “I am a local man, being born in Wells and living in Priddy on the Mendip Hills. I have travelled widely between university and my working career. I have worked as a postman, as cabin crew for an airline and as a caving instructor and guide for Cheddar Caves and Gorge. I was raised and worked in the Queen Victoria Inn in Priddy, which my parents ran for 39 years. I understand clearly the importance of small businesses and the tourist industry with respect to this area.”
