A group of members from Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge’s Town Twinning Association have travelled to France to watch a traditional flower festival.
The fourteen residents travelled to Louvigné du Désert, our twin town in Brittany, to enjoy the annual Festival of Flowers weekend.
This consists of an agricultural show plus a street parade with bands and decorated carts followed by a fireworks display to round off the weekend.
“The festival takes place every year, but it rotates around the eight towns and villages in the region, and the twinners have been lucky enough to have seen many of these over the years since our twinning arrangement was begun in 1997,” the group’s Mike Mansfield told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
A marching band from the region took part in Burnham and Highbridge’s Jubilee celebrations in June this year and it is hoped that a group from Louvigné will also be returning in November for the annual carnival.
