Work to demolish a familiar landmark in the centre of Burnham-On-Sea was completed on Friday (July 27th) when the well-known round tower at the site was brought to the ground.
Burnham-On-Sea.com was first to report earlier this week how Tuckers Garage in Victoria Street was being razed to the ground to make way for a development of new flats.
Hopes that the familiar art deco tower (pictured) could be saved were dashed when the familar structure was demolished on Friday morning at 11.30am.
One local bussinessman in Victoria Street told Burnham-On-Sea.com “how the ground shook” when the huge building came falling to the ground.
Deputy Mayor Neville Jones told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Sadly, the tower could not be saved. The building was not listed in the Conservation Area, although I understand the preliminary plans for this site do show a new tower will be incorporated into the building when it is constructed.”
