At a meeting on Tuesday (August 16th), Sedgemoor District Council threw out the application for a new housing development in Victoria Street.
“In the absence of a legal agreement to secure the on-site provision of affordable housing or alternatively financial contributions towards the off-site provision of affordable housing, the application is contrary to central government planning policy,” a council spokesman explained to Burnham-On-Sea.com.
He added: “Furthermore, in the absence of a legal agreement to secure financial contributions towards outdoor sports facilities to meet the needs of the future residents the application is also contrary to Policy RLT3 of the Sedgemoor District Local Plan.”
The scheme would have seen 27 units of sheltered accommodation for the elderly being built within two three-storey blocks.
Sedgemoor’s planning development committee had previously sought community grant funding of £150,000 from developers Abracore.
