A Burnham-On-Sea cul-de-sac whose stunning display of 100,000 twinkling Christmas lights has been dubbed ‘Britain’s most festive street’ by a national newspaper this week was lit up for the festive season on Monday (December 1st).
The eight Trinity Close homes switched on their illuminations at 7pm, marked with the firing of two fireworks, right, and a line-up of festive carols and music from Burnham’s Curtain Call School Of Performing Arts, above.
The residents have decorated their homes top to bottom with lights, in addition to roofs, lawns and garden fences, and the display will be lit each night from 4pm until 10pm until January 4th.
The lights raised over £8,000 for charity last year and this year’s collection will benefit PETAL: The Christine Woodberry Memorial Trust, plus Burnham’s rescue hovercraft charity BARB, Musgrove Park Maternity Ward and Burnham Scouts.
This year’s display has been featured in the Daily Mail newspaper this week, which said it was a candidate to be named ‘Britain’s Most Festive Street’.
Residents Nick and Hazel Gardner, right, started the tradition 12 years ago with neighbours Chris Woodberry and his late wife Christine.
Nick told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We’ve moved the lights around a little this year and we have several new ones. Several residents have installed extra new lights this year, so it’s great to see the display continuing to grow each year.”
Visitors are being invited to make a donation in a number of collection boxes located around the homes in Trinity Close. Last year the display raised £8,250, making a total of over £50,000 since the collections started eight years ago.
