Burnham-On-Sea’s Trinity Close switches on huge Christmas display

-

Crowds of residents headed to a Burnham-On-Sea cul-de-sac whose stunning display of over 100,000 twinkling Christmas lights has been dubbed ‘Britain’s most festive street’ when it lit up for the start of the festive season on Friday night (December 1st).

The Trinity Close residents, pictured below, have decorated their homes with more colourful lights than ever before, with illuminated reindeer and twinkling festive decorations set up in gardens and on walls.

Resident Roger Flower told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Each house tries to do something a little different and add something each year.”

“It’s a stunning display again this year and I think part of the success is that visitors are surrounded by lights on all four sides. With no through road, visitors are able to wander around without worrying about traffic.”

The display is lit each night from 4.30pm-10pm until early January, in aid of two local charities – BARB, which operates Burnham’s rescue hovercrafts, and PETAL: The Christine Woodberry Memorial Trust providing cancer support.

Visitors are being encouraged to be courteous to residents in neighbouring streets by parking sensibly in the area.

Staff and residents from Kingsleigh Residential Home were on hand to sing carols at Friday’s switch-on, which was attended by scores of residents.

Last Christmas, the five-week display in Trinity Close attracted crowds of visitors who generously dug deep to raise a record sum of £13,329 shared between BARB, which operates Burnham’s rescue hovercrafts, and PETAL: The Christine Woodberry Memorial Trust. Visitors are being encouraged to make donations in the collection box.
