Over 300 athletes from across the country completed Burnham-On-Sea’s grueling annual triathlon on Sunday morning (June 12th).
The event, now in its 25th year, was staged despite wet and windy weather conditions.
Will Massey from Cromhill Tri won the event – which comprised a 750m swim, a 20km bike ride and a 5km run – in a fast time of 59 minutes and three seconds.
Iain Hindes from North Devon Triathletes, who won the event last year, finished in second spot, just eight seconds behind.
The first lady home was Celia Miall from West Country Triathletes in a time of one hour, seven minutes and 26 seconds.
But the loudest cheers of the day went to 90-year-old Burnham pensioner Arthur Gilbert, who completed his 21st triathlon in a time of 2:45:43.
The event was organised by Burnham-On-Sea Swim and Sports Academy, whose managers said they were “delighted” with how the race had gone.
The trophies and awards were presented to the winners by town councillor Neville Jones, who has been present at every event over the past quarter of a century.
