A bracing sea swim was among the three activities that more than 70 athletes completed during an Olympic distance triathlon in Burnham-On-Sea on Sunday (July 13th).
Triathletes from across the UK competed in the event, which comprised of a 1,500 metre sea swim, 40km bike ride and a 10km run.
Strong onshore winds made for challenging sea conditions and several swimmers were unable to complete the first leg of the challenge.
After the swim, the athletes cycled to Wedmore, passing through Cheddar, Rooksbridge and Brent Knoll, and then finished the event with a 10km run.
The winner, Jack Plumber from West Counntry Triathletes, completed the event in 2:11:11. Second male overall was Scott Jenkins who was almost seven minutes behind.
The first female overall was local competitor Celia Miall in a time of 2:32:55 and second was Nicki Barron.
Organiser Martin Rogers, from Burnham Swim and Sports Academy, said the event had gone well despite the blustery conditions and he thanked all those who took part plus the marshalls, organisers and safety volunteers.
