The 20th annual Burnham-On-Sea triathlon – a 500m swim followed by a 20km cycle and then a 5km run- will take place this Sunday (June 11th).
When the event first started, it attracted 100 participants – it now has 330 competitors taking part this weekend.
It will start at 10am with participants beginning their swim in Burnham Pool, then cycling out along Love Lane towards Tesco and then to the Edithmead roundabout, heading north past Brent Knoll and along the A370 towards Lympsham and Berrow, then returning back to the pool along the Berrow Road.
The run section heads out from the Pool onto the beach, then onto the golf course and returns back along the beach to the finish.
Due to the nature of the event, competitors will be spaced out with the last competitor finishing at around 2.30pm.
The prize ceremony will be held between 3pm and 3.15pm with winners receiving their prize from the Chairman of Council, Councillor John Denbee.
The event is organised by Sedgemoor District Council’s Leisure and Lifestyles Service, with the support of 60 volunteers from the local community.
The weather forecast is good for the day so large crowds of onlookers are expected to line the route.
