Burnham-On-Sea TriathlonThe Burnham-On-Sea Triathlon is held every June and attracts hundreds of competitors to tackle a tough course that includes 20 lengths of Burnham Pool, a 20km cycle, and a 5km beach run.

After a 500m swim at Burnham Pool (which takes the leaders about 6-8 minutes to complete), the competitors jump on their bicycles for a gruelling 20km cycle ride.

The cycling course takes them from Burnham pool to Lympsham via Love Lane, past the Tesco supermarket, over the railway bridge at Edithmead, to the M5 motorway roundabout.

Here, they snake around to the left towards Weston-Super-Mare along the A38/A370 past East Brent. They cycle left off the A370 at Lympsham, then cycle across the moors, along Red Road to Berrow Road, and then come back to Burnham-On-Sea swimming pool.

Once completed, the competitors then face a 5km beach run which takes them from Burnham-On-Sea to Berrow. They run over the sand dunes to the Burnham and Berrow golf course, before heading back onto the beach for the final run-in to the finish on Burnham Beach, near St Andrew’s Church.

The Burnham On Sea triathlon is a very flat course but it’s still regarded as a tough one by those competing in it. The leaders usually complete it in just under an hour.
