Man trapped under tree trunk in Brent Knoll is air-lifted to hospital

-

A man has been air-lifted to hospital after suffering a serious foot injury in a freak accident in Brent Knoll.

The man was cutting a tree in a field off Brent Street on Friday afternoon (March 23rd) when a large trunk suddenly shifted, trapping his left foot.

Burnham-On-Sea fire and ambulance crews were called to the scene and the Dorset and Somerset air ambulance also flew in to help him, as pictured here.

“The tree was being cut by the man with a chainsaw when the large main trunk suddenly shifted and his left foot became trapped between the trunk and a big branch,” a spokesman for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“We received a call from South West Ambulance Service reporting a person who had become trapped.”

“A fire appliance from Burnham-On-Sea was immediately mobilised by fire control. On arrival the officer in charge confirmed that one male casualty was trapped by his leg.”

Crews got to work using small tools to release the casualty, who was then taken to hospital by the yellow Dorset and Somerset air ambulance, as pictured here.

A South Western Ambulance Service spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We were called to an area near Brent Street because of reports someone was trapped under a tree.”

“We attended with various resources including two hazardous area response teams. A male patient was taken by air ambulance to Southmead Hospital for treatment.”
