Safety fears are one of the reasons for the felling of dozens of trees at a Burnham-On-Sea holiday camp this week.
Work has been taking place at the entrance to Burnham Holiday Village in Marine Drive, as pictured, to remove a long line of trees during the quiet period before this year’s tourist season.
The park was given permission by Sedgemoor District Council to fell 48 trees and cut back 16 other trees, which were covered by a tree preservation order.
“The application was made due to increasing concerns over health and safety and with good arboriculticultural practice in mind,” explained Burnham-based arborist David Bateman, who made the application for the holiday park.
A tree management plan, outlining a phased programme of felling and tree replacement, has also been presented to the district council as one of the conditions for the work proceeding.
