Council goes to court in legal bid to move Burnham seafront travellers

-

Sedgemoor District Council went to court on Friday (April 11th) in a legal bid to get a group of travellers moved from Burnham’s seafront lawns.

The council took the action following concern from local residents about the three caravans parked up on the South Esplanade near the town’s Yacht Club, pictured here.

They arrived a week ago and have remained in place ever since, although one of the caravans has moved to an area of grass next to the road, as pictured.

Sedgemoor District Council spokeswoman Claire Faun told Burnham-On-Sea.com after Friday afternoon’s court appearance: “Our legal representative, Steve Hellard, attended court and I can confirm that we have now been able to serve court orders on the two travellers vans which are on the council land to move immediately.”

Several residents had contacted the council to seek their removal. One resident, Paul Hambleton, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are concerned by the arrival of the caravans. It’s not good for tourism when visitors and walkers see them parked up along our seafront like this.”
