A group of over 20 travellers has set up camp on the Burnham-On-Sea BASC Ground playing fields this week.
Some of the travellers first gathered on Burnham’s Cassis Close playing fields near the BAY Centre early on Wednesday, but they later moved to the BASC Ground where other vehicles joined them.
Sedgemoor District Council said it was aware of the situation and was set to begin legal proceeedings to move them on from the BAY Centre fields, however now that job will fall to the BASC Ground.
The vehicles – including caravans, trucks and cars – are parked in the area at the front of the BASC Ground used by weekend car boot sales.
There are also other travellers vehicles in the Pier Street car park next to Burnham’s former Morrisons store.
