A group of travellers parked up on Burnham-On-Sea’s seafront lawns has moved a few metres into a car parking area for the town’s Sailing Club.
Sedgemoor District Council headed to court on Monday (June 5th) in a legal bid to move the travellers, who had been parked on the seafront lawns on Burnham-On-Sea’s South Esplanade for a week.
But rather than moving out of the area, they moved on to the grassed parking area opposite the Sailing Club.
Burnham-On-Sea Sailing Club Chairman Graham Wills told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It is an inconvenience for the Sailing Club’s members and we are in dialogue wit Sedgemoor District Council. The Police are also aware.”
He added: “Because the parking area is owned by Sedgemoor District Council and leased to the Sailing Club, it is the council’s legal responsibility to take action to move them.”
Claire Faun, a spokeswoman for Sedgemoor District Council, said that action is underway to get them moved.
