Train fares from Highbridge railway station to rise in the New Year

-

Commuters using Highbridge Railway Station will face higher fare charges from the New Year.

First Great Western has confirmed this week the level of fare increases which will come into operation from January 2nd, 2009.

Fares from Highbridge to Weston will rise from £3 for single journeys to £3.20, while return fares will jump from £4.10 to £4.40.

Fares from Highbridge to Taunton will rise from £5.30 for single journeys to £5.60, while return fares will increase from £5.60 to £5.90. Fares to Bristol Temple Meads will rise from £7.20 to £7.60 and return fares will jump from £7.30 to £7.70.

Independent consumer watchdog Passenger Focus has criticised the increases across the UK as commuters face tough times in the economic downturn.

A First Great Western spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “From our point of view we have done our very, very best to keep fares down. The issue we face is our costs are rising above inflation and we’ve got to deal with that now. We’ve tried to reduce the impact on customers.”
