The first of several new-look town signs have been unveiled this week at the entrances to Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge.
Burnham artist Judith Champion was commissioned by the Town Council to design the artwork for the signs, replacing the old structures which had been in place for over 30 years.
Mayor Ken Smout and Simon Robinson from local sign-maker RT Signs unveiled the first signs, as pictured, on the A38 near the Isleport roundabout and on the approach to Walrow.
Judith Champion said it had been an “honour” to be invited to design the artwork.
“It was a unique opportunity to create an important piece of artwork that has to be instantly recognisable and stand out,” she told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“With guidance from the Town Council, I decided on Burnham lighthouse and the new Highbridge clock – both of which are iconic structures in the two towns.”
The Town Council is also set to replace the two other signs in West Huntspill and Burnham’s Queen’s Drive over the next year. A brand new fifth sign is also being considered in Berrow.
