Town council gives Burnham-On-Sea groups a £2,500 cash boost

-

Burnham-On-Sea town council has handed a New Year cash boost to thirteen local groups.

Councillors voted on Monday night (January 7th) to award £2,520 to local organisations and charities as part of its annual grants hand-out.

The groups include Burnham and Highbridge Army Cadets (£250), Burnham and Highbridge Sea Cadets (£250), 290 Squadron Air Cadets (£250), 1st Burnham Scout Group (£250), Highbridge Community Hall (£250) and Highbridge Festival of The Arts (£200).

Other recepients include the Friends of Apex Park (£125), Burnham and Highbridge Choral Society (£400), Burnham Philosophical Society (£50), the Vale of Avalon Vintage Vehicle Road Run (£100), Chalice Morris Men (£50), KazDanz Youth Dance Group (£100) and Burnham United Football Club (£200).

A town council spokesman said the amount of grant funding is lower this year due to the cancellation of a key fundraising event.

“The amount is lower because Burnham Rotary Club was unable to contribute to the grant funding due to the cancellation of the annual fireworks display in 2007.”
