New Burnham-On-Sea Town Centre Manager is announced

-

A new Town Centre Manager has been appointed in Burnham-On-Sea this week.

Beverley Milner Simonds, who is well-known as one of the organisers of the town’s Food Festival, is to take on the new role, it was revealed at last night’s Town Council meeting.

The role has been formed to co-ordinate events and promote the town centre, working alongside Burnham Chamber of Trade and other local groups.

Cllr Ken Smout said at Monday’s council meeting that six people had applied for the job and that four had been short-listed and were interviewed at the end of September.

“Each candidate was asked to present their ideas for the town centre and to outline their vision,” said he added.

Cllr Michael Clarke, Chairman of the Town Projects Committee, added: “We had four strong candidates but one person, Beverley Milner Simonds, scored higher than the others.”

“She has such enthusiasm and has already done wonders with the Food Festival. She will do a great job in this role and we look forward to seeing her vision come to fruition.”

Mayor Martin Cox added: “A good decision has been made and I am pleased we can now move forward.”

Beverley Milner Simonds added: “I am really pleased to have been appointed and I am looking forward to working with the town centre businesses, residents, landlords and visitors. My focus will be on the very clear projects that have been agreed and to listen to those affected by the Tesco expansion.”

The part-time role, which will earn £15k a year over two years, is among several improvements being funded by £440,000 of funding from Tesco to offset the impact of its store expansion in Burnham.
