Burnham guesthouse owner Tom Ashton, who is also a director of Somerset Tourism Association, told Burnham-On-Sea.com this week: “The Burnham area has seen more summer day-trippers and short stay visitors than in previous years.”
“I think this may be a sign of the times as families feel the effects of the financial downturn and have less to spend on holidays.”
“Many guesthouses and holiday parks in the Burnham area have been busy with short-stay visitors, but they don’t seem to have been spending a great deal in local shops and cafes – another indication of the economic conditions.”
Over the August Bank Holiday weekend, the changeable weather also meant beaches in Burnham, Berrow and Brean were quieter than some previous years.
