Burnham-On-Sea has been heavily praised in a brand new tourism survey published on Thursday (March 29th).
Its “welcoming and relaxing atmosphere” has been highlighted, along with its “quality beaches” and “flat walking terrain”.
The results of the survey on Burnham, commissioned by Sedgemoor District Council’s Tourism Unit and carried out by South West Tourism, have just been released in advance of the start of the new seaside season.
The report is based on the findings of a face-to-face survey of some 400 visitors to Burnham-On-Sea that took place between July and September 2006.
Visitors who took part in the survey were asked a whole series of detailed questions.
Some of those taking part talked about the ease and cost of parking in Burnham, where 80% thought it ‘easy’ or ‘very easy’.
The range, quality of service and value-for-money of the places to eat and drink in the resort were considered to be “good” or “very good” by 79% of visitors.
And 81 per cent of visitors who took part in the survey said they were ‘likely’ or ‘very likely’ to recommend Burnham-On-Sea as a place to visit to others.
Cathy Bryon-Edmond, Tourism and Marketing Officer for Sedgemoor District Council, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The survey allows us to take a snapshot look at who was visiting Burnham, how they got here, where they were staying, how long they stayed and what they thought of some of the services on offer.”
Ms Bryon-Edmond added that those who did mention problems commented about the condition of the toilets. The toilets on the Esplanade were recently refurbished.
The findings are useful material to aid the future direction of investment and services in the resort, added Ms Bryon-Edmond.
