Tourism businesses in Burnham-On-Sea have enjoyed a bumper start to the season thanks to a great month of weather.
Temperatures peaked in Burnham at 23.3°C (73.9°F) on Sunday during a great weekend of ‘barbecue weather’.
Shops, cafes, car parks and beaches in Burnham were busy with visitors, while there were also busy beach scenes at Berrow and Brean.
Burnham-On-Sea.com spoke to several traders in the town over the weekend, many of whom reported very busy trade.
Sonya Fudge at Bay View Cafe on Burnham’s seafront said: “It has been a very busy start to the season – it was a great weekend and our ice cream sales were superb. It was our second best weekend of the year so far – after the bank holiday at the start of the month. The weather makes all the difference.”
Geoff Lewis at the Treasure Chest gift shop on The Esplanade added: “It has been a very positive start to the season. We’ve had a great weekend, and Saturday was busier than we expected – the Royal wedding and FA Cup final didn’t keep people away.”
Pat Lynham at Styles ice cream on the seafront added: “It has been a great start to the season with strong ice cream sales.”
The Front Parlour cafe’s Sylvia Poole added: “It has been a super start – we just want the weather to stay like this for the rest of the season!”
A Burnham-On-Sea Chamber of Trade spokesman added: “We’re really pleased to see the town centre and seafront busy during the good weather. It has been a busy start to the season for many tourism-linked businesses and we’re hoping businesses will benefit from this Saturday’s Burnham-On-Sea Food Festival and another great Bank Holiday weekend.”
