Burnham-On-Sea’s seafront toilets are set to be officially re-opened next week after a major revamp.
Sedgemoor District Council has just finished refurbishing the public conveniences on Burnham seafront (pictured right) at a cost of £82,000 and they will be officially opened at 9.30am on Wednesday January 17th.
The works were carried out from the middle of September, after the major part of the holiday season.
Council spokeswoman Claire Faun said: “The female cubicles were very confined and the council had received several complaints about them. The disabled facilities had been up to DDA standards but really needed to be up-graded. The gents were in need of revamping and had been vandalised.”
“Adjacent to The Esplanade loos was the toilets facility in the BARB building which had remained unused and closed for a number of years. At the design stage, it was decided to remove this facility and make a store for the Beach Wardens and Tourist Information Centre.”
“This released the existing storage space that was then incorporated into a new female facility. There are now nine ‘ladies’; an increase of two and they are now larger in size.”
“The male and disabled facilities were upgraded with new sanitary ware. The floors levelled, new drains, tiled throughout, increased lighting and new secure outer doors.”
