A £14,000 project to introduce new toilet facilities at a village hall near Burnham-On-Sea was completed on Saturday (August 14th).
A ceremony was held in East Brent Village Hall to mark the opening of its new ladies and disabled WCs.
Sedgemoor District Council Chairman Jane Moreton cut a ribbon to mark the opening, alongside East Brent Village Hall Chairman Hugh Mackay and Pre-School Chairman Karen Lewis.
Hugh said the project’s funding had come from a variety of local sources.
Grants included £9,500 from Viridor Credits, £2,344.50 from Sedgemoor District Council, £1,500 from The Nuttall Trust and £50 from Frocester Engineering.
Hugh told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The existing ladies toilets were in need of upgrading and our only WC for wheelchair users was located within the ladies toilets area.”
“This meant that we had the unsatisfactory situation of male disabled persons having to go into the ladies area. We now have separate, modern facilities for each.”
Work on building the facilities started last month and was completed this week.
The hall is well-used, with 6,000 regular users from the Pre-School, Day Centre and Bowls Club and a further 800 casual users per year.
