A young water skier from Burnham-On-Sea is celebrating this week after making a splash at a national awards ceremony.
Teenager Toby Duggun received the end-of-season winning trophy and the award for ‘most improved skier’ at the national water ski championships awards in Oxford.
He was presented with the sought-after dauphine championship trophy.
Toby, who is pictured above on Burnham beach with proud step father Steve Cox and trainer Steve Bird, also did well in the US Championships earlier this winter when he came second in his age group whilst competing in Nevada.
He told Burnham-On-Sea.com he was “delighted” to win his trophy and is looking forward to the new season. His latest successes mean he is on track to take part in the 2011 World Championships in Brisbane.
Toby was also featured on Burnham-On-Sea.com in June, pictured right, when he won five out of five races in the British Championships in his age group.
Step father Steve Cox, who is himself a top water skier after having won the British Championships in 1978, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I’m very proud of what Toby’s done.”
Steve Bird added: “Collecting the end of the season winning trophy and the trophy for ‘most improved skier’ of the whole year was a great achievement.”
Toby is pictured at the awards ceremony with an injury he picked up while playing rugby at school. His sister, Grace Cox, also did well, collecting a third place trophy on the night.
