Burnham-On-Sea residents have been warned by the Environment Agency that high tides and gales could cause flooding in the area this weekend.
A Flood Warning has been issued for the seafront in Burnham, plus Berrow and Brean as strong winds and high Spring tides are forecast.
An Environment Agency spokesman said: “High tides and possible storm surges could cause wave overtopping and localised flooding.”
Sedgemoor District Council made 300 sand bags available in Burnham this afternoon as a precaution. These are available for residents from outside the BARB station on Burnham’s seafront.
There will be an 11.7m metre tide at 7.21pm this evening, but there is more concern around the 12.0m high tide in Burnham at 7.42am on Saturday morning (February 1st) when strong onshore winds are forecast.
The 11.9m high tide at 8.08pm on Saturday evening will also be closely watched, says the agency.
