Burnham-On-Sea’s seafront information centre will celebrate its first anniversary on Saturday (April 14th).
Community group BIARS (Burnham Information and Rescue Support) took over the centre a year ago from Sedgemoor District Council, saving it from closure.
“BIARS is marking the end of a busy and successful first year of operation by holding an open day from 10am-4pm on Saturday when prospective volunteers are very welcome to come along and find out how they might be able to help,” a spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
BIARS took over the facilities from Sedgemoor District Council in April 2011. Its team of more than 20 volunteers hand out tourist and community information while providing sea safety advice and merchandise from BARB (Burnham Area Rescue Boat) and Burnham’s branch of the Coastguard Association.
New volunteers are welcome to join the centre’s friendly team by visiting the centre or contacting the group here.
