Claims that Burnham-On-Sea’s Tourist Information Centre is at risk of closure have been rejected by the group which runs the facilities this week.
A local newspaper claimed that the seafront centre “could be at risk of closure because of funding difficulties”, however bosses at BIARS (Burnham Information and Rescue Support) say this is not correct.
“The numbers of visitors to the centre are growing, we have solid support from our wonderful volunteers, and financial support from local businesses is growing,” said a spokesman for BIARS, who added that several key advertising deals with local tourist firms have been agreed in recent weeks.
“Of course, we would welcome more funding and the team is working to secure this, but reports that the centre is facing closure are not helpful.”
