Council defends timing of three weeks of Easter roadworks in Highbridge

-

Somerset County Council has defended its decision to undertake three weeks of roadworks along a busy route through Highbridge into Burnham-On-Sea during the Easter holidays.

Motorists are being warned to expect delays at peak times along Burnham Road from April 8th-29th while the work is underway.

A spokesman for Somerset County Council’s highways team told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The current works involve patching and kerb-raising and are needed in preparation for surface dressing works which will take place later this summer.”

“There is never a perfect time to carry out roadworks but these have been timed to take place during the Easter holidays due to the nearby school.”

“In the past this has proven to be the most suitable time for works at this location.”

Two-way traffic lights will be in operation to minimise disruption, but with the area busy with Easter holiday traffic, queues are likely.
