A Burnham-On-Sea town centre shop is celebrating its third decade of successful business.
Steve Thomas has run Thomas’s in Burnham-On-Sea High Street for 30 years, providing a traditional key cutting service and shoe repairs.
Speaking to Burnham-On-Sea.com this week, he said: “We have a lot of loyal customers to thank. They keep coming back and appreciate the unique service we offer.”
He added: “It’s been a good 30 years but there have been difficult times. We nearly went under at one point several years ago and only managed to keep running thanks to the support of our customers.”
While the shop’s services have not altered, Steve adds: “One thing that has changed over the years is shoe repairs have got a lot more difficult.”
“Shoes have generally gone from being properly constructed ones that could easily be repaired to cheaper shoes with plastic mouldings that are almost impossible to repair. I will always take a look and provide advice.”
He added that his wife, Lucy, also helps in the shop and sells her greetings cards.
A Burnham-On-Sea Chamber of Trade spokesman said: “Our congratulations go to Steve on his third decade of business.”
“Thomas’s is a super independent shop in the heart of Burnham that is one of our town centre’s little ‘gems’, offering a much-valued service to local residents and visitors.”
