A high-speed theme park ride at Brean Leisure Park is one of six across the UK to have been shut after a death on a similar attraction in America.
An 18-year-old man died and three others were critically injured after being flung from the ride at the Ohio State Fair last week.
The ride, known as the KMG Afterburner, swings at high speed from side-to-side while also spinning passengers.
The Health and Safety Executive ordered the re-inspection and temporary closure of similar rides in the UK.
One of the rides closed is ‘Wipe Out’ at Brean Theme Park.
A spokesperson at the Brean park said: “Safety is our top priority, and we stopped the ride on the day of the accident.”
“It will be stopped until we hear from the manufacturers and the powers that be.”
No other rides are affected and the park remains open as usual.
Unverified footage from Wednesday’s accident in Columbus, USA showed one passenger carriage breaking loose near the bottom of its pendulum swing, tossing passengers into the air as it rose again.
An HSE spokeswoman said all the rides in the UK had been “thoroughly inspected within the last 12 months”, but there was no “verified information” on the cause of the fatal accident in the US.
As a result the organisation had served an enforcement notice on the machines, which takes them out of use.
“HSE will ensure operators are kept abreast of information as it arrives and will take such action as is necessary to ensure the rides are inspected and tested as necessary to ensure safety,” the spokeswoman added.
Other rides closed are at Pleasurewood Hills in Suffolk and Coney Beach in South Wales. The other two rides are owned by Ryan Crow Amusements in the North East of England and by Joseph Manning in Hertfordshire.
