Burnham-On-Sea’s MP has made a special visit to the town’s UK Online centre where she has praised its work in helping more local people to use the Internet.
Tessa Munt visited the Burnham Area Youth Centre in Cassis Close on Friday (February 11th) where she met some of the UK Online team and its users.
She heard how one in five adults across the UK don’t use computers or the Internet and that a nationwide UK Online campaign is currently underway to inspire them to get change that.
Tessa chatted to some of the centre’s existing learners and also met some of the new visitors getting to grips with computers.
She told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was a real pleasure to meet people at the BAY centre, and I am always impressed by how friendly and dedicated the staff are, and how easy they make it for people to take their first steps online, or just learn something new. The BAY Centre is a great resource for the Burnham area, and a great way for people to get into technology and get started online.”
The centre’s co-ordinator, Mike Lang, added: “We know from experience that anyone and everyone can get more out of life being online. The fact is that people don’t use computers and the Internet for their own sake – they use them to do the things they do anyway, but more quickly, more cheaply and more often.”
