Burnham-On-Sea’s MP has this week told local campaigners that she is doing all she can to stop controversial plans for a line of huge electricity pylons to built across the Somerset Levels.
Tessa Munt attended a packed meeting of local campaigners at the weekend where she reiterated her support for their bid to halt National Grid’s unpopular scheme for a 400,000 volt power connection between Hinkley Point and Avonmouth.
Despite calls for the line to be buried underground, National Grid announced that the 37-mile power line would run overground in the the Burnham area last November, as reported here.
The MP told Burnham-On-Sea.com this week: “Spirits remain high and there is no lack of passion for the campaign which has been continuously and passionately fought for over three and a half years.”
“The next big date for the campaign is 3rd September when everyone will be able to comment on the planning application National Grid will make.”
“In the meantime I am continuing to press the Treasury, Department for Energy and Climate Change and Department for Communities and Local Government to do all they can to help stop these unnecessary pylons scarring our beautiful Somerset countryside.”
