Burnham-On-Sea’s MP has this week expresed her “deep disappointment” that the Prime Minister is not doing more to safeguard the country’s forests.
Tessa Munt has campaigned against government’s proposals to sell off publicly-owned forests and almost 1,000 people have written to her in support.
“We were promised a parliamentary bill from David Cameron, but none has been forthcoming and there was no mention of it in the Queen’s Speech,” she told Burnham-On-Sea.com this week.
“The nation’s forestry is the single largest provider of outdoor leisure and recreation, a vital habitat for our treasured wildlife and act to combat global warming. Managing our forestry means it also pays its own way, providing an annual profit of £400 million.”

“Massive public and political pressure eventually forced a ‘u-turn’ at Number 10 and the Prime Minister agreed that he would introduce laws to safeguard the nation’s forestry forever.”
