Traffic snarl-up predicted when Burnham’s Tesco roundabout closes
Parts of Burnham-On-Sea may grind to a halt on Sunday (June 19th) when the town’s Tesco roundabout closes for essential repairs.
Somerset Highways, a partnership between the County Council and Atkins, is replacing the 25 year-old road surface – forcing the temporary closure of the road.
The resurfacing work will be carried out in two phases and will involve road diversions for one-day only.
The first phase starts at 7am and takes in the northern half of the roundabout and the leg towards Middle Burnham.
Traffic using the B3140 and entering The Frank Foley Parkway to access Tesco will be managed by three-way lights.
Local traffic from the Love Lane estate roads (Hawley Way and Ramsey Way) will be diverted via Stoddens Road and Stoddens Lane.
The second phase starts at 6pm and affects the southern half of the roundabout and the road into The Frank Foley Parkway.
Access to the new estate roads off Frank Foley Parkway will be via a local diversion along Rosewood Avenue and Rosewood Drive.
The main diversion for through traffic using the B3140 will be signed via the A38 and B3139 through Highbridge.
Highway Service Manager Dennis Herniman said: “These works have been carefully planned to minimise disruption to local people and visitors alike but are necessary to address potential safety issues should the surface continue to deteriorate during the busy holiday period.”
