Burnham-On-Sea’s ‘store wars’ stepped up a gear this week when the town’s Tesco supermarket unveiled plans to revamp its Love Lane supermarket.
With the opening of Highbridge’s huge Asda store now just months away, Tesco announced that it would be refurbishing its store and introducing more product lines.
A leaflet being distributed at the Tesco store, pictured, states: “Over the coming weeks you’ll see some exciting changes taking shape as we make make your Tesco store even better.”
“We asked customers from this store how we could make shopping easier, so some of the improvements are thanks to their comments.”
The store will get an improved layout with “extra room to browse” between aisles, a new car care products section, a larger delicatessan counter, a new-look meat counter, an extended health and beauty section and more cookware products.
Tesco is also introducing 74 extra car parking spaces on an area of grassy land near to its drive-in entrance, as we reported in November. A Tesco spokeswoman told Burnham-On-Sea.com it hopes the changes will be completed by the Spring.
Asda plans to open its huge new 40,000 sq ft supermarket at Springfield Road in Highbridge at the end of 2007. It will boast 273 customer car parking spaces and a further 24 spaces for general use by the public.
In September, we reported the Department of Communities and Local Government had turned down Tesco’s bid to double the size of its store.
