Burnham-On-Sea Tesco supermarket to unveil expansion plans

-

Supermarket giant Tesco announced on Friday (July 11th) that it is to hold a public meeting in Burnham-On-sea later this month when new expansion plans will go on show.

The store in Ben Travers Way has been under pressure to modernise and expand since rival Asda opened its huge new store in Highbridge.

“We are starting a public consultation phase ahead of a possible expansion to our Burnham store,” Tesco project manager Dan Bramwell told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Friday.

“More details will be announced in the coming days, and a public exhibition will be held in The Princess Hall on July 22nd from 12.30pm to 8pm and Wednesday July 23rd from 11am to 7pm.”

In September 2006, Burnham-On-Sea.com was first to report that the Department of Communities and Local Government had turned down Tesco’s bid to double the size of its store.

Tesco had wanted to double the size of its store from 14,714sq ft to 35,335sq ft and increase the number of car parking spaces from 166 to 382 in addition to introducing a new petrol station and cafe.
