One of the largest vessels to travel through Bridgwater Bay for several years glided past Burnham-On-Sea on Saturday evening (April 25th), as pictured here.
The huge 100-metre Terra Marique barge was pulled by a tug past Burnham at 8pm, having collected a large load of equipment from Combwich.
It arrived in Burnham early on Friday and was towed up the Parrett estuary by a powerful tug called the ‘North’.
The barge is believed to have been picking up equipment from Hinkley Point power station on behalf of EDF and British Energy.
With its cargo safely onboard, the barge passed Burnham again on Saturday evening at high tide.
A formal Notice to Mariners warning was issued to small craft owners by the Harbour Master earlier in the week, stating: “The tug and tow will be maneuvering with difficulty… all vessels should give the tug and tow a wide berth.” The same barge visited Combwich in 2006.
