Burnham-On-Sea boat owners were urged to take caution on Tuesday evening (November 21st) when a huge barge sailed past the town on its way towards Bridgwater.
The 80-metre Terra Marique manoeuvred off Burnham for 45 minutes at 5.10pm before being towed along the River Parrett estuary, past the town, to Combwich.
The vessel is in the area to collect a heavy load from Hinkley Point power station on behalf of British Energy.
With its cargo safely onboard, the barge is scheduled to pass Burnham again during Wednesday night’s high tide, providing weather conditions do not worsen.
A Notice to Mariners warning was issued to small craft owners in the area ahead of the visit.
It stated: “Mariners must give the tug and the tow a wide berth. The tow will arrive off Burnham in the late afternoon and wait off the main jetty before proceeding to Combwich. During the approach and waiting time the tug and tow will be severely restricted in their ability to manoeuvre and all vessels should give them a wide berth.”
The photos of the Terra Marique shown here were taken during its earlier visit to Burnham in April this year.
