Burnham-On-Sea tennis club bids farewell to long-serving coach

-

Players at Burnham-On-Sea’s Avenue Tennis Club have this week bid farewell to long-serving coach Nick Arnold.

Head Coach Vinny Duddy and some of the young players gathered to wish Nick a ‘bon voyage’ as he travels to Australia to start tennis coaching, training and travel there.

Vinny told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The kids and I will all miss him as he has always turned out to help with coaching at Vinny’s Minis nearly every Friday night for almost the last five years.”

“Nick started at the club at an early age, doing tennis coaching, and then went onto a sports training course at Bridgwater since he wanted to get more involved in coaching and tennis.”

He took his LTA Level 1 and 2 courses and has started coaching at local schools in many sports as well as tennis. He also represented the Avenue’s first team in the North Somerset League Division 1.

Vinny’s Minis started nearly 10 years ago for parents to bring their kids along whilst they did some coaching or played in the social night. It is now a popular, free fun session for members and to introduce new kids.

The session is split into two hours, 6.30pm to 7.30pm for under 8s and 7.30pm to 8.30pm for over 8s. If you would like to see if your child would like to get involved in tennis then please bring them along to the club on a Friday evening.

Duddy says the Wimbledon New Adult Membership deal of half price membership together with six group tennis lessons would continue for the rest of the summer; anyone wishing to take advantage of the offer should call the club on 01278 782758.
