A busy day of tennis-themed actitvities raised hundreds of pounds for Burnham-On-Sea’s Nathan Edwards Tennis Academy on Saturday (August 22nd).
Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate Tessa Munt was among those supporting the fun day, held at the public tennis courts in Burnham’s Manor gardens.
“It was a fun day and people of all ages had a go at playing tennis, as well as enjoying the barbecue and games,” organiser Sally Edwards told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
Performance coach Jamie Allen worked with the young players and there was also a display of class tennis by William Archer, who recently qualified for the main draw of the Under 12 Nationals in Bournemouth.
A barbecue, overseen by Joe Montgomery, Nathan’s dad, ‘Scouse John’ and Robin Kyd, father of Academy coach Greg, was successful.
A ‘name the bear’ competition also attracted plenty of interest, with Marmite being chosen as the correct name by a young boy called Kieran, who collected a prize donated by The Taylor Made Bear Company.
Three people also correctly guessed the number of balls in the basket, with the main prize of a £25 voucher for a meal at the Zalshah Indian Restaurant in College Street being won by Adam Marchant of North Petherton.
The event raised a total of £308 for the Academy, with all proceeds going to the Nathan Edwards Tennis Academy to subsidise the cost of coaching talented children.
In the last two months, two of the Academy’s players have won their first tournaments – Alice Davies, aged 8, from Lymsham, and Jamie Clancy, aged 9, from Rooksbridge.
