A Burnham-On-Sea knitting enthusiast has created hundreds of teddy bears for needy children in Africa.
Oliver Cooper has grabbed bundles of wool and knitting needles to take part in a district-wide project to create hundreds of teddies for children in Uganda who are experiencing trauma.
The team of knitters have managed to create an impressive 282 teddies which are going to ‘Teddies for Tragedies’, a registered charity that was set up in 1986 after doctors at a refugee camp found that teddies have a hugely positive effect on children and aid their recovery.
Olive and a fellow knitter, Diana Baker, attended a specially-arranged tea party this week where they were both rewarded for their efforts with bunches of flowers.
The initiative has been overseen by Homes in Sedgemoor’s Activities Group and has also raised 120 in sponsorship for the Stroke Association.
