Highbridge’s King Alfred School will be partially closed on Wednesday (March 26th) when teachers hold a one day strike.
Parents have been sent letters warning them of the disruption, which will affect three school years.
Andy Owen, head teacher at King Alfred School, said: “Whilst all efforts are being made to maintain essential services to children and young people, regrettably the industrial action will mean that the school will not be open as usual to students in Years 8, 9 and 10.”
“This action is not against the school itself but is part of industrial action organised by the trade union. Having conducted a risk assessment and having consulted with the Governing Body I regret that the school will be closed to students in Years 8, 9 and 10. The school will be open for Year 7, 11, 12 and 13 students.”
“We have prioritised Years 11, 12 and 13 as students in these years have exams soon. We have also included Year 7 as we are aware that there can be problems with childcare for parents/carers of our youngest students.”
The strike has been called over pay, pensions and working conditions by the National Union of Teachers and National Association of Schoolmasters and the Union of Woman Teachers.
No other schools in the Burnham area have yet announced that they will be affected by the strike.
