Taxi charges in Burnham-On-Sea will not rise, it was decided this week.
A request was made to Sedgemoor District Council by Sedgemoor’s Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Drivers Association to increase fares to cover rising fuel costs.
It comes after Burnham-On-Sea.com reported earlier this year how drivers are bearing the brunt of soaring fuel costs and are angry that the district council – which oversees passenger fares – is not helping them more.
However, a meeting of Sedgemoor’s licensing and general purposes committee on Wednesday (September 17th) turned down the application, saying a second rise was not necessary.
Sedgemoor gave the go-ahead for a small taxi fare increase in April this year, as reported here on Burnham-On-Sea.com.
The district council has the authority to fix rates or fares, as well as all other charges in connection with the hire of a vehicle.
